The Amazing Chemistry Show

9:00 AM - 10:30 AM

An amazing event for kids 2 to 92! (Nursery will be available for babies and younger children) Have you ever had a large ball of fire safely ignited from your hand? Or used a banana to pound a nail into a wooden plank? Or been slimed by a puking plastic pumpkin? When you and your family attend The Amazing Chemistry Show and Family Experience, you will be entertained by these experiments and more. Josh Dehart, Founder of The Amazing Chemistry Show, combines exciting science experiments with a gospel message about God’s love for us. While the chemical reactions, loud noises and unexpected twists will leave you and your kids amazed, the message will stir your hearts and leave you with more to think about. This is not something that you will want to miss. Make sure to invite all the parents you know - we're all looking for an opportunity to have a safe, fun, and educational event with our kids.

Celebrate Recovery at NewLife Church

6:00 PM - 8:30 PM

NewLife Celebrate Recovery meets every Tuesday evening and provides a healing, healthy environment for adults seeking to overcome hurts, hang-ups and habits. Tuesday Nights Weekly Dinner at 5:45pm Large Group at 6:30 PM Open Share Groups at 7:30 PM What is Celebrate Recovery? Celebrate Recovery is a safe place to address destructive or compulsive behaviors, unhealthy relationships, addictions (drugs, alcohol, food, pornography, etc.), anger, shame, codependency (addiction to people and control), past abuse and so much more. People can find freedom from any hurt, hang-up, or habit that is making their life unmanageable. What happens at Celebrate Recovery? There are 3 main components that make up the Celebrate Recovery Program: Large Group – This is where everyone meets together to hear either a recovery centered teaching or a personal testimony of a changed life. Open Share – This is the time we break into separate gender specific groups where each person is safe to share their struggles and victories with others who share their similar hurts, hang-ups and habits. Step Study – Step Studies are a safe place to work through the Jesus-centered 12 Steps in a gender specific group. They are a minimum 9 month to one-year commitment and meet on different days of the week. It's a place where the “why” behind addictions and behavior can finally be uncovered and freedom can be found. Do I have to join/register for the group to attend? Absolutely not. Being a member will give you more access to the calendar, resources, and email reminders about events that are coming up though. We hope that regardless of you joining or not through this page, that you join us!

Faith and Racial Equity: Exploring Power & Privilege

6:30 PM - 8:30 PM

The Center for Social Ministry is offering Faith and Racial Equity* an eight-week program awakens small groups to economic systems, public policies, cultural norms, and hidden biases that empower some and oppress others. The first half of the module introduces a framework for understanding and recognizing racial disparities in power and privilege. Sessions 5-8 take a deeper dive into specific issues related to power and privilege, including affirmative action, the school-to-prison pipeline, the criminal justice system, and powerful biases in media representation. As with all JustFaith programs, participants will explore how their faith should inform their response to their learning, as well as discern action steps for working toward racial equity in their own communities. Please note that Faith and Racial Equity is not for the faint of heart! This program is designed for participants who are willing to wrestle with hard questions and take an honest look at their own attitudes, assumptions, and choices. However, through spiritual grounding and community building, participants find support and belonging throughout their journey to personal transformation and social action. *Faith and Racial Equity: Exploring Power & Privilege is a JustFaith Ministries program. Meets: Tuesday Evenings, April 20 - June 15, 2021 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. (the first meeting is a retreat and will meet from 6-9 p.m.) Location: Online Note: This program includes an immersion experience. At this time, immersions are being held virtually.   https://csm.coursestorm.com/course/faith-racial-equity-exploring-power-privilege7

Reasonable Faith Des Moines Apologetics Ministry

7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Local chapter of Reasonable Faith, the international apologetic ministry of philosopher and theologian Dr. William Lane Craig. Each month, we meet to discuss topics that help us learn: to provide an articulate, intelligent voice for biblical Christianity in the public arena; to challenge unbelievers with the truth of biblical Christianity, and; to train Christians to state and defend Christian truth claims with greater effectiveness. In 2021, we are looking at the problem of suffering and evil, and how to answer questions from skeptics and unbelievers about why God allows suffering and evil, and why bad things happen to "good" people. We are currently meeting online on the third Tuesday of every month at 7-9 pm. Please contact us at reasonablefaithdesmoines@gmail.com (or call (515) 979-2691 for more information and to receive the online meeting link.
